The Chinese use it as a yin supplement for weakness of the stomach, nerves, and digestive system.It stimulates the CNS and digestive tract, and has estrogenic effects on the body. It reduces swelling and salivation, is good for hot flashes and problems of oestrogen deficiency following menopause or hysterectomy, and disorders affecting the mouth and throat (such as tonsillitis). It helps with fevers, upset stomachs, headaches and night sweats.
Externally it may be used in tea form for mouthwash and gargles, and as a hair rinse to promote shine and growth. As a compress it promotes the healing of wounds.
